ARTNOIR is thrilled to announce the return and expansion of the Jar of Love Fund. In a continued partnership with Sotheby’s, this microgrant initiative provides support, mentorship and career development for artists, designers, curators, and cultural producers of color. For this special cycle of grants, the initiative will be geared towards New York and London-based applicants, offering unrestricted grants of $5,000 each. The New York and London grantees will form a cohort and benefit from professional development opportunities that provide a forum for fellowship and further strengthen the grantees' relationships with the wider arts & culture community. Grantees are selected by a committee of art & design industry peers with the New York 2024 cohort set to be announced this summer and the London 2024 cohort announced this fall during Frieze London (October 9-13, 2024).

We are also very excited to join efforts in London with Dr. Samuel Ross MBE and The Black British Artist Grants Programme by SR_A. The Black British Artist Grants Programme aims to bridge the gap between community and industry by supporting Black British and POC creatives through talent recognition, resources, and collaborations, promoting sustainable change and visibility in the arts, design, and fashion sectors.

The collaboration between the Jar of Love Fund and SR_A marks a significant milestone, leveraging shared values between both organizations and SR_A’s expertise and commitment to supporting a new wave of talent in London and beyond.

This year, we are delighted to welcome an esteemed selection committee to help us determine the 2024 cohort of grantees in New York and London. Committee members for New York include: Jenée-Daria Strand, Assistant Curator at Public Art Fund, Nontsikelelo Mutiti, visual artists and Director of Graduate Studies for Graphic Design at Yale School of Art and Adama Delphine Fawundu, visual artist, Guggenheim Fellow and Professor of Visual Art at Columbia University. Committee members for London include leading British academic and historic art institutions.

For the past decade, ARTNOIR has worked tirelessly as an agent of social change, catalyzing equity across the arts and culture industries. As an organization built on community support, ARTNOIR’s goal is to provide relief, love, and care for artists, designers, curators, and cultural producers when they need it most. The unrestricted Jar of Love Fund, established in 2020 in response to the pandemic’s unprecedented challenges, has grown into a vital grantmaking program, distributing more than $100,000 USD to date.

Similarly, SR_A has been instrumental in advancing Black British creatives through its Black British Artist Grants Programme. SR_A’s initiative provides crucial support and resources, fostering talent and creating opportunities for artists to thrive in the global creative economy.

Together, ARTNOIR and SR_A’s collaborative efforts are not only alleviating immediate burdens but also driving long-term, systemic change in the creative sector. Their combined impact ensures that diverse voices are recognized, celebrated, and empowered to shape the future of the arts.

Applications are open to all those 18 years or older working within the arts, residing in New York City, adjacent Tribal Nations, and London. We welcome all forms of artistic expression, from visual arts including painting and sculpture, to performance art, dance, choreography, design, curation and a wide array of cultural visionaries. We are committed to ensuring that artists, designers, curators, and cultural producers of all gender expressions, sexual orientation, disability status, and socioeconomic class have access to the fund and will actively work to ensure outreach is to groups otherwise excluded from resources of this nature.

The New York application launched in June, with the selected grantees to be announced later this summer.

The London application can be found HERE and will remain open until September 15, 2024.

Their partnership will allow us to expand our grant initiatives and redistribute much-needed fiscal resources to artists, designers, curators, and cultural producers of color in 2024.
