ARTNOIR’s Inaugural Where We Going Fellow at STONELEAF

STONELEAF and ARTNOIR proudly announce interdisciplinary artist Adrienne Elise Tarver as the inaugural Awardee of the ARTNOIR Where We Going Fellowship at STONELEAF RETREAT. The Where We Going Fellowship is a three-week summer residency at STONELEAF from July 8 to July 28, 2024, culminating with open studios on Saturday, July 20th as part of UPSTATE ART WEEKEND.

STONELEAF RETREAT is a residency that provides sanctuary for artists, allowing them to commune with nature and deepen their connection to their practice and themselves. By centering the voices of womxn artists of color, the ARTNOIR’s Where We Going Artist Fellowship at STONELEAF provides artists with a platform to develop and showcase their work and contributes to shifting cultural narratives. Inspired by the Where We At Black Women Artists (WWA) collective in the 1960s and 1970s -  founded by Faith Ringgold, Kay Brown, Dindga McCannon, Carol Blank, Jerri Crooks, Charlotte Kâ (Richardson), and Gylbert Coker - the spirit of this fellowship maintains the integrity of fostering environments where artists can ground themselves to continue the discourse around society and how their art contributes to the larger conversation.

From Adrienne: “I am honored to be the inaugural recipient of ARTNOIR’s "Where We Going" Fellowship at Stoneleaf Retreat. Not only does the ethos in which this fellowship and residency were created resonate with me deeply, but the timing and purpose feel perfect for me. I'm grateful for the support and encouragement from the ARTNOIR and Stoneleaf teams. It comes at an important time in my life and career."

2024 is the inaugural year for this collaboration between STONELEAF RETREAT and ARTNOIR for the Where We Going Fellowship.
