Face Á Face: Yaa Gyasi and Artist Toyin Ojih Odutola in Conversation @ NeueHouse

We were joined by author Yaa Gyasi and visual artist Toyin Ojih Odutola for a conversation celebrating the release of Gyasi’s critically acclaimed debut book, Homegoing, a novel that traces the family lines of two Ghanaian half-sisters over 300 years and, in the process, reveals the devastating legacy of slavery in both Africa and the United States. The tête-à-tête will explore the symbiotic journey of these two creatives, both born in Africa (Ghana and Nigeria respectively) and raised together in Alabama, who use literature and visual art as tools for discourse about cultural duality, identity, and the complexities of growing up in the American South. Presented in collaboration with Neuehouse, the conversation highlights the new wave of millennial voices redefining how we see ourselves and the world around us with compelling diasporic narratives.
